Today, November 8th, Skagit Valley College is pleased to join other colleges around the country in the inaugural First-Generation College Student Celebration. This year’s celebration coincides with the 52nd anniversary of the Higher Education Act.

As we welcome first-generation college students to our campuses and centers, we want them to know that the dream of a college education is within their reach. They bring a variety of experiences, skills, and values that enrich the College and our community.

For the past 36 years, SVC’s TRIO Student Support Services program has provided important one-on-one academic support to first-generation students, as well as economically disadvantaged students, and individuals with disabilities.

I encourage you to visit the first-generation book display that will be available in the library on the Mount Vernon and Whidbey Island campuses this week. You can also learn more at .
